Global computer chip shortage makes for low auto inventory: Letters

Re “GM, Ford halt work as chip shortage worsens” (Sept. 4):

Seems I recall that between Silicon Valley and Sorrento Valley, the U.S. had the worldwide chip market almost monopolized a mere decade or so ago. And now there’s a chip shortage? Has U.S. technology sunk so far that we can’t even supply our own industry? I’m ashamed.

The DHCD failed our homeless in all respects

Re “So many funds, yet homeless still a problem” (Sept. 2):

So, the Department of Housing and Community Development failed to distribute hundreds of millions of dollars in a timely way, DHCD failed to collect information on outcomes, so no one can evaluate the effectiveness of the program. DHCD did not take critical steps to make sure the money reached the people it was intended to help.

DHCD failed to oversee the contractors hired to manage the funds. I’d like to say I’m shocked, but I am not. Everything in this state’s government is a complete failure.

Go back to work, laggards

Thank God EDD benefits have ended. Now these individuals have to start looking for work for real.

What do I mean by that? Was told by a reliable source that people were applying for jobs, then when they got a call-back for an interview, they don’t show up. But by just applying, it satisfied EDD that they were looking for employment.

I’m getting tired of going to restaurants and other businesses and seeing signs posted that the waits are long because they are short-staffed.

So, please, please, go back to work, if physically able. You are needed badly.

Recall status and GOP paragons of penny-pinch

Recent polls would seem to indicate that the recall will fail. Reportedly, $276 million of the taxpayers’ money will have been wasted on it.

I hope that our Republican friends, those paragons of fiscal responsibility, are proud of what they have accomplished.
