The Oakland A’s have won two games in a row on the field, and they got another piece of good news Friday.
The A’s reinstated outfielder Seth Brown from the injured list. Brown went on the IL on Aug. 27 after testing positive for COVID-19.
The last time Brown played was Aug. 23, and it was exactly two weeks ago that his positive test was announced. At the time he was going through some symptoms, but a week later he was feeling much better. Last night he played a minor league rehab game for Low-A Stockton and went 2-for-5 with a homer, and now he’s officially back in action.
With the return of Brown, Oakland adds another power bat into the mix, and a lefty to help balance their righty-heavy lineup. He’s hit 16 homers in just 256 plate appearances this year, and his rate of 16 plate appearances per dinger is by far the best on the team, though too many strikeouts and a low batting average have dragged down his overall line.

In addition to his power at the plate, Brown is also one of the fastest players on the club according to Statcast’s sprint speeds, and he’s a plus defender in the outfield corners per the advanced metrics.
To make room for Brown on the active roster, catcher Austin Allen was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Allen was called up on Sept. 1 when rosters expanded, but only appeared twice as a pinch-hitter, going 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout.
