Sally Lapointe wants to have fun! The designer's colorful and electric spring 2022 collection was inspired by a post COVID underground rave

Sally Lapointe debuted an electric spring 2022 collection last night at 33 Howard Street as part of New York Fashion Week.

'I designed it during the height of lockdown,' Sally told the Daily Mail. 'I was trying to think what it's going to be like when this comes out, so my inspiration was the idea of a post COVID underground rave.

'Off the grid but not quite back to society yet.'

Wanting to 'shock the system' Sally stayed true to her brand's DNA

Wanting to 'shock the system' Sally stayed true to her brand's DNA.

'Our brand DNA is about color driven statement dressing,' she said.

Neons were seen throughout the collection with salmon, lavender and white  peppered in.

Her signature fur accents decorated the sleeves of knit sweaters and tops, while latex bottoms were paired with body-hugging separates.

Hero pieces that scream "having a good time no matter what" came in the form of a neon trench coat, sheer pants and a ruched leather skirt.

'I want people to have fun again,' said the New York-based designer.

Compared to past seasons, Sally says this collection is more fun while still being her customer.

'We're still using all of our classic cashmeres and quilts or crepes, things people really come to us for, but its presented in a way that's just all about a vibe.

'I've never been one to play by the rules or stick to this preset calculation of what fashion should be,' she said.

'This collection was an explosion of creativity.'

'I want people to have fun again. I'm going to give them the clothes they want'

Sally's imagination extended beyond the clothes and into the evening's presentation.

Instead of a traditional catwalk show at Spring Studios (the NYFW hub), Sally opted for a smaller space that she could transform into a dance party.

From the mesmerizing colors bouncing off tv screens to the techno sounds provided by the DJ (decked out in Sally Lapointe, of course!) it was impossible not to feel transported into an electric, post COVID world.

'I want people to have fun again so I'm going to give them the exciting clothes they want.

'I want them to feel zzzzzz (motions being zapped by an electrical current),' she said.
