In recent years reigning NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Justin Bonsignore has shown a talent for quickly finding the fast way around tracks he’s never competed on before.

That ability held true once again in qualifying Friday at Richmond Raceway for the Whelen Modified Tour Viriginia Is For Lovers 150.

Bonsignore, of Holtsville, N.Y., toured the .75-mile Richmond Raceway oval with a fast lap of 21.512 seconds to score the pole in the first series event at the track since 2002.

Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y. was second fastest in qualifying at 21.528 seconds. NASCAR Cup Series regular Ryan Preece of Berlin was third in qualifying at 21.560 seconds.

Cup Series regular Ryan Newman (21.581 seconds) was second. Ron Silk (21.663 seconds), the winner of the last two Whelen Modified Tour events, was fifth in qualifying.

Burt Myers, Ronnie Williams, Anthony Nocella, Eric Beers and Tyler Rypkema rounded out the top-10 in qualifying respectively.

The Viriginia Is For Lovers 150 is scheduled for 7 pm tonight.
