Former Celtic defender Efe Ambrose has joined St Johnstone. The central defender was released by Livingston at the end of last season but has now signed a deal with Callum Davidson’s Perth side. The Double-winning side of last season were looking to bolster their ranks after Jason Kerr left and Davidson said he would use the free-agent market to improve his side.

Ambrose, who spent five years at Celtic, working under Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers. The versatile central defender will be able to impart his vast knowledge of the game to youngsters while offering an option in the backline after Jason Kerr left for Wigan.

At 32, Ambrose has a lot of playing left in him but he has already begun a gradual transition into life after football by coaching and helping young players come through at Livi. Ambrose left Celtic with 4 Premierships and 1 of each the League Cup and Scottish Cup.

Efe could go into the Saints side to play Rangers tomorrow afternoon.
