Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Cristiano Ronaldo 'doesn't want any special treatment' following his move back to Manchester United as he gets set to make his second debut

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Cristiano Ronaldo won't be given any special treatment after returning for a second spell at Manchester United.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner will make his first appearance for the club in 12 years against Newcastle at Old Trafford following a £19.8million move from Juventus.

Ronaldo has trained for the last four days and wants to start the game, but Solskjaer says he will make the decisions over his 36-year-old former teammate.

'Cristiano doesn't want any special treatment, he wants to be part of the team,' said Solskjaer. 'He knows what the team is and he's conducted himself really well.

'He knows I've got to make the decisions when to play him and when not to play him. It's my job to manage him and get the best out of him.

'We are all here to win. It's not about whoever's ego, scoring goals, me, me, me. No, I've seen a group that knows we have to do this together.' 

Solskjaer has already made a difficult decision over whether to hand the penalty-taking duties to Ronaldo or continue with his Portugal teammate Bruno Fernandes - although the United manager wasn't giving anything away.

'I knew that question was going to come and, of course, I've had a chat with the two of them,' he added.

'We've got two players there that I'd trust with my life to put a penalty away and that's a great position to be in.

'They know that I decide who is going to shoot the penalty if we get one, that's not going to cause an issue.

'We're here to win together. It's not about my numbers or your numbers. It's about us as a team and the decision is going to be mine.' 

Solskjaer acknowledged that Ronaldo will take United to another level, both in what he brings to the team and the standards he will demand from his teammates.

'We're still a work in progress, but Cristiano gives us another edge,' he said.

'I do feel I have a squad now that can complete at all levels. There are international players left, right and centre.

'He comes with his winning mentality. He and Raphael (Varane) have won the Champions League a few times, they've won European Championships and World Cups.

'When you have players like this, there's no hiding place because you'll be told if you don't do the right thing.

'We're now in a good position that the experience should be dripping down to the boys with aspirations to be as good as the players we're talking about.'
