Swanson gets a day off, Arcia and Heredia in the lineup against Rogers

Dansby Swanson hasn’t exactly been an iron man throughout his career, but his day off today is only the second he’s gotten all year. (Coincidentally, the first day off, back on June 13, also came against the Marlins at home.) Orlando Arcia gets the start at shortstop, while despite last night’s heroics, Joc Pederson rides the pine against southpaw Trevor Rogers as Guillermo Heredia starts in his place:

This will, of course, be Arcia’s first start in the infield for Atlanta. Notably, Rogers doesn’t really have any notable FIP or xFIP platoon split this year (this makes sense given that his arsenal is not particularly horizontal in any respect), and it’s not like Arcia and Heredia are noted lefty-killers (.280 and .311 career xwOBAs against southpaws, respectively, though Heredia’s at least at .332 since the start of 2019 and .339 this year), but we’ll see what happens.

The Marlins, meanwhile, are playing Jorge Alfaro in left field for some reason, but that means we get to see former compatriot Alex Jackson behind the dish.

This is a novel lineup for Miami, but it’s the same defensive arrangement they used to beat the Mets 2-1 on Wednesday.

This Braves crew has seen Rogers a tiny bit:

Meanwhile, only some of the Marlins in this lineup have faced Anderson, despite him making a couple of starts against them already this year — that just speaks to the roster turnover and injuries the Marlins have had and are currently weathering.

And now, Statcast graphic time!

I’m probably jinxing it terribly and the Fish are going to tee off on Anderson, but boy, that’s pretty much the worst up-and-down set of xwOBAs I’ve ever seen in a team lineup since Baseball Savant started making these types of previews available.

First pitch should be at 7:20 pm ET.
