A clump of Elvis Presley’s hair, roughly the size of a baseball, was auctioned off and sold for $72,500 on Saturday, according to Kruse GWS Auctions.

The hair is from a bag of clippings originally belonging to Homer “Gill” Gilleland, Presley’s personal friend and longtime hairstylist, according to the documentation.

The clump of hair is “the most well documented collection of Elvis Presley hair in the world,” Brigitte Kruse, founder and lead auctioneer of Kruse GWS Auctions, said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “It has been in a sealed jar since it was acquired by our client.”

The jar of hair containing the clump is supplemented with “extensive documentation,” Caroline Galloway, spokeswoman for Kruse GWS Auctions, told the Washington Examiner.

“At Kruse GWS Auctions we take provenance and documentation very seriously,” Kruse said. “The extensive paperwork shows chain of custody, how and when it was acquired, and it has never been out of the owner’s possession until it came to auction.”

The bag was one of Gilleland’s “prized possessions,” according to the paperwork.

Kruse boasted the rarity of such a find.
