John Lithgow joins Julianne Moore in Apple TV+ film ‘Sharper’

Back in June of last year, we heard that Julianne Moore (Lisey’s Story) had joined the cast of a film called Sharper, a co-production from Apple Original Films and A24. It’s been relatively quiet on that front ever since, aside from casting news in August of this year. And now it’s more of the same before production on the film officially starts.

According to a report today from Deadline, John Lithgow (3rd Rock From the Sun, Perry Mason) has joined the cast of the film called Sharper. He’ll be joining Moore and Briana Middleton (The Tender Bear) in the upcoming thriller. The report says principal photography is set to start on the project next week in New York City.

Sharper is based on a spec script from writers Allesandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, both of which previously wrote the film The Sitter. The film will be directed by Benjamin Caron (The Crown).

The project itself is mostly under wraps at this point. However, the original report says the film “unfolds within the secrets of New York City, from the penthouses of Fifth Avenue to the shadowy corners of Queens. Motivations are suspect and expectations are turned upside down when nothing is as it seems.”

This is a big film for both Apple and A24, so it will have a theatrical run ahead of its Apple TV+ global debut. Unfortunately, with production just about to get started, we don’t have a release date just yet.

Sharper is also set to star Justice Smith (Pokémon Detective Pikachu), and Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). In related news, John Lithgow joined the cast of the next Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon, which is coming soon to Apple TV+.
