But on Wednesday, the popstar (born Ella Yelich-O'Connor) opted for a polished look as she stepped out to attend Christian Dior's Designer of Dreams Exhibition in Brooklyn, New York.
The 24-year-old showed off a hint of her cleavage as she donned a black baby-doll style gown.

The Royals hitmaker teamed the frock with a pair of matching-coloured pointy heels in the same dark tone.

Lorde also added a pop of colour to her look by carrying a miniature quilted pink handbag.
The pop star opted for clean, natural makeup and a smattering of dainty gold accessories.
The brunette's locks were slicked down and fastened in a low bun, as well as parted at the centre.
In between posing at the media wall, the singer was spotted smiling as she caught up with Dior's Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri.
The Green Light singer's appearance at the event comes after she recently posed for Vogue Magazine New Zealand.
In the interview which accompanied the stunning photoshoot, the talented songwriter shared her discomfort with 'the pop star life.'
'I'm great at my job, but I'm not sure I'm the man for the job,' she mused. 'I'm a highly sensitive person. I'm not built for pop star life.
'To have a public-facing existence is something I find really intense and is something I'm not good at,' she admitted. 'That natural charisma is not what I have. I have the brain in the jar.'
Lorde's newest album, Solar Power is her first project to be recorded in the Māori language and it's out now.
