Georgia football’s starting quarterback for Saturday against UAB may not be apparent until close to kickoff but Carson Beck’s high school coach in Jacksonville says the redshirt freshman will get the nod for an injured JT Daniels.

“My understanding is he’s starting,” Mandarin High coach Bobby Ramsay told the Athens Banner-Herald Friday. “Something about an oblique injury to one of the other quarterbacks, Daniels.”

Ramsay said he hasn’t spoken to Beck so “I can’t say that as gospel, but that’s my understanding of it anyway.”

Georgia offensive players Wednesday said that Beck and Daniels shared first-team snaps in practice on Wednesday. Beck worked with the No. 1 offense as Monday this week ahead of the 3:30 p.m. game Saturday.

“I don’t have any doubt about his preparedness or readiness to play,” Ramsay said. “I think he’s in a really good place from a mental standpoint, he’s happy at the school. I have no concerns him. I don’t think any fans should be worried about if he’ll be able to go out and play at a high level.”

Georgia is 5-0 with Daniels as starter, but the Bulldogs did not score a touchdown in a 10-3 win over Clemson last Saturday and Daniels did not complete a pass longer than 21 yards.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Beck, a former four-star quarterback, went 22 of 31 for 236 yards and two touchdowns in April. He saw game action only against Missouri but did not attempt a pass.

“He obviously has to go get it done and execute and play at a high level and play within himself and not try to do too much,” Ramsay said. “I know sometimes that’s a tendency for guys, especially when you’re getting your opportunity to show what you can do. I think he could have gone in the game last week and probably been ready to go.”
