Detroit Lions hire former LS Don Muhlbach as special assistant

ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The 40th birthday for Detroit Lions veteran long-snapper Don Muhlbach was not only a milestone, but also marked the day he was being released after 17 seasons in the NFL.

First-year Lions coach Dan Campbell, also Muhlbach's former teammate, called himself an a--hole for making the decision on that particular date, but the organization announced Friday that they're bringing him back as a special assistant.

His role could consist of some coaching and scouting duties, while reporting to Campbell, GM Brad Holmes and president and CEO Rod Wood for numerous projects.
