K-pop band Monsta X has unveiled the music video for its new single "One Day," which was released on the band's official YouTube channel at 11 a.m. ET on September 10.
The new single, released earlier today ahead of the music video premiere, marks the band's first English track since the release of its 2020 album All About Luv, which was the first all English-language album released by a K-pop group at the time.
The latest tune, which has an uplifting feel, is about "having lost or broken up with someone" and "the feeling of knowing that it might feel better at some point, but you're stuck in your current emotion and not able to realize that," according to a statement from the band's U.S. publicist.
The new music video sees Monsta X members in a pensive mood, from Hyungwon looking at photographs and Shownu sitting in a darkened space staring at a wedding band-style ring to Minhyuk slumped over a table while broken glasses remain frozen mid-air.
The video concludes with members staring up at a night sky lit up by fireworks.
Monsta X has been drip-feeding fans with hints about its latest single throughout this week, including a music video teaser, a glimpse of the song lyrics and a sound clip.
Monsta X member Kihyun said in a statement: "It's been a really long time since we've released an English song. To get this song out, we've had a lot of support and help from many others. I'd like to give my sincere thanks.
"Due to the pandemic, we weren't able to see our international MONBEBEs [the collective name for Monsta X fans], nevertheless they've always been the light and energy for us," Kihyun added.
"One Day" follows the release of the Monsta X song "Kiss or Death," which was unveiled in July. The group's latest album One of a Kind, the band's ninth EP, was released on June 1, featuring the title track "Gambler."
Monsta X has gone from strength to strength since their debut in 2015. Its English album All About Luv debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 Chart, making it only the third K-pop group to chart within the top 10, according to their publicist.
It was the first male K-pop group to perform at a major U.S. festival with its performance at the Life Is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas, and was the first K-pop group to perform at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on the same day.
It has performed on several major U.S. television shows including Jimmy Kimmel, Good Morning America, Live with Kelly and Ryan and the Today show.
Last year Monsta X, voiced its support for the Black Lives Matter movement, during a performance for Time magazine's "TIME100 Talks" series.
"As U.N. ambassadors for sustainable Goal 16 we stand for peace and justice," Monsta X rapper I.M said at the time. "As such we have supported Black Lives Matter activism, and we believe that it's time to acknowledge the issue and fix it."
