Man charged in two killings back in Mahoning County

YOUNGSTOWN — The U.S. Marshal’s Service brought Jabrae L. Perry, 44, back to Mahoning County and placed him in the Mahoning County jail Thursday to face charges in the Aug. 24 shooting deaths of two people in a home on Salt Springs Road.

The marshal’s service arrested Perry Aug. 31 in Columbus, and he was placed in the Franklin County jail while court proceedings took place there. He had fled from Youngstown after the killings.

He is charged with aggravated murder and complicity to aggravated murder in the deaths of Ayanna Mills, 49, and her son, Brandon Bell, 28. Police have described the killings as domestic related.

The victims were found shot in a home in the 1200 block of Salt Springs. Mills was dead at the scene. Bell was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he later died.

Franklin County Municipal Court records indicate Perry had an arraignment hearing in Columbus Sept. 2 and another hearing Thursday. Another hearing is set for Sept. 23, but it’s unclear whether he will still have to appear for that hearing.

Perry had no new hearing date as of Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court, where the two murder charges were filed Aug. 25.
