Aaliyah's Final Self-Titled Album Finally Hits Streaming Platforms

Aaliyah had been a force to be reckoned with. Her lasting influence on the world of R&B continues to permeate, with the current generation of artists citing her as an influence. Now, 20 years after her sudden death, Aaliyah's full catalog is making its way onto streaming services.

Her first two records, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number and One in a Million, had appeared on streaming platforms earlier this year. And now, her final, self-titled record is now finally available to be streamed. Starting with her sophomore record and making its way over to her soundtracks for the films Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds, only Aaliyah's EPs remain off streaming. However, the rollout of her records to streaming services has proven to be slightly contentious. The singer's uncle, Barry Hankerson, who had signed her to his record label at the start of her career and introduced her to R. Kelly, controls her masters and was the one to put her albums up on streaming services. Aaliyah's estate has claimed that the deal is "unauthorized," and has not been promoting the new rollout.

Earlier this year, the late R&B icon's estate stated that they had an interest in putting Aaliyah's music onto streaming platforms, but the matter was out of their control. "Our inability to share Aaliyah's music and artistry with the world has been as difficult for us as it has been for all of you," the estate wrote in a statement. "Our priority has always been and will continue to be Aaliyah's music."

Aaliyah's compilations, I Care 4 U and Ultimate Aaliyah have yet to arrive on streaming platforms, however they are set to arrive next month on October 8.
