Reports of Custer County residents getting vaccinations continues to slowly increase.

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), 56.5 percent of county residents ages 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 88 percent of residents ages 65 and older have received one dose.

Those numbers climbed from 55.6 and 87.5 percent respectively last week.

For those who have received both doses, 45.9 percent of residents 12 and older have, while 79.2 percent of those 65 and older have in Custer County.

Those number are an increase from last week, where 45.1 percent of those 12 and older and 78.8 percent of those 65 and older had.

The county vaccinations continue a slow upward trend.

While new hospitalizations didn’t change last week from the week before, OSDH is reporting 820 new hospitalizations this week. That number is 43 less than last week at this time.

Of those 820 hospitalizations, 563 of those are between the ages of 45 and 84, also down from last week.

OSDH is reporting 18,635 new cases this week, which is less than the 20,334 reported last week.

The majority of new cases, 14,513 are between the ages of 5 and 54.

Even with hospitalizations and overall cases trending downward, deaths however are not, as OSDH reported 207 new deaths this week. That is up from 189 last week. Of the 207 reported this week, all but 40 were between the ages of 45 and 84.

Even as cases and hospitalizations have trended downward, vaccinations are available every day.

The Custer County Health Department does both testing and vaccinations for anyone, but appointments are needed. Those wishing to get tested or vaccinated call the Weatherford office at (580) 772-6417 or the Clinton office, (580) 323-2100 to schedule an appointment. Both sites can do appointments from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They also accept online appointments through vaccinate@oklahoma.gov.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University is resuming its Friday COVID-19 vaccination clinics on the Weatherford campus.

Dr. Randy Curry, coordinator of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy Rural Health Center, said the public is invited to get their vaccinations Fridays, starting today and continuing Fridays through October. The Friday clinics will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

Appointments are preferred and can be made by calling (580) 774-3025. The clinic is open to everyone, and walkins are accepted. Shots being given are Moderna, Johnson/Johnson and Pfizer.

Also, the Clinton Indian Health Services (CIHS) are providing vaccines as well. CIHS is administering vaccines from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The clinic is drive through only. Immunocompromised individuals are able to receive their third vaccination. More information about the next phase of third dose vaccinations will be released later this month, according to CIHS.
