How To View Location History In Google Maps

In case you didn’t know, Google saves your location history, as part of the Google Maps app. Well, it technically saves it as part of your Google account, but the location history settings are also available via Google Maps, and are a part of the app itself. That being said, if you’re wondering how you can view your location history in Google Maps, you’re in the right place. We’ll show you how to do that in this article, in case you’re curious, or in case you’d like to delete it, or disable future tracking. We’ll do that one step at a time, so it ends up being immensely easy to do. You’ll also find some imaging below, to help you along the way.

You can view your location history via the Google Maps app

The first thing you need to do is open up the Google Maps app. If it’s located on your home screen open it, if not, open the app drawer by swiping up, and locate the “Maps” icon, or ‘Google Maps”, depending on the device.

Once the app is open, you’ll see your location on a map. Mine is hidden in the image below, for obvious reasons. In any case, once you open the app, you’ll need to tap your profile icon in the top-right corner, as marked below.

Once the floating menu opens, you’ll see a bunch of options. We’re interested in the “Your data in Maps” menu, which you’ll notice above the “Settings” option, towards the bottom.

You can delete it, disable it, or just check where you’ve been

In the following menu, you’ll see your “Home” and “Work” locations, along with “Google-wide controls”. Under that section, you’ll notice the “Location History” options. My location history is disabled, as you can see, or “Paused”, as Google likes to call it. In that section, you’ll also spot the “See & delete activity” option, which will give you far more information about your location history, and allow you to delete it. So tap that if you’d like to know more.

As you can see, in this menu, you can set up the “Auto-delete” option for your location history, and also see and delete past activity under the “Manage activity” option.

That is pretty much it. Handling your location history from within Google Maps is not a problem at all. Do note that my location history is paused primarily due to battery life issues. There was a bug about a year or two ago which affected battery life because of it, so I disabled it, and never decided to revert that move.
