COLUMBUS – Grammy and Emmy award-winning jazz singer Nancy Wilson will be honored with a ceremonial street sign in downtown Columbus.

The sign is being installed at the corner of Civic Center Drive and Broad Street, near City Hall, Friday afternoon.

A graduate of West High School, Wilson won a local talent show at age 15, which led to her having her own local radio and television show, Skyline Melodies.

She began her singing career working with local musicians in many local clubs on the East and North sides and met her mentor, Julius “Cannonball” Adderley, who convinced her to move to New York.

Wilson died on December 13, 2018, at age 81.

An outdoor tribute concert for Wilson will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday.

The free “Ladies Night Salute to Nancy Wilson” concert will be held at the Hot Times Arts and Music Festival, at 51 Douglass Street.
