Franklin County Animal Shelter warns that cats who aren’t adopted soon will be euthanized

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — All week, the Franklin County Animal Shelter has asked for the community’s help finding homes for the many furry friends living in the shelter. However, with the shelter “busting at the seams,” certain animals who aren’t adopted quickly are facing euthanization.

According to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, so many felines were brought into the shelter on Thursday, Sept. 9 that “we have to make the difficult choice to euthanize cats for space.”

The shelter says some cats can be kept in crates until 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.

In order to get more cats and dogs out of the shelter and into the forever homes they deserve, the Franklin County Animal Shelter is waiving adoption fees through Saturday, Sept. 11. However, you will still have to pay the spay/neuter fee for any pets that have not undergone that procedure.

In addition, the shelter is also extending its hours and will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

You will need to fill out an application first, but if you are approved, the shelter says the adoption process is fairly quick.

Some of the dogs, though, will need meet-and-greets with potential pet parents before being adopted.

“Every one of these animals deserve a loving home and we are heartbroken how full we have become,” the Franklin County Animal Shelter wrote on Facebook on Thursday. “We are begging that you come out to help us make room for the never ending intakes.”
