Watch party for Chiefs-Browns game set for Cleveland’s Warehouse District

Three bars in Cleveland’s Warehouse District are joining forces to hold a watch party for the Cleveland Browns’ opener Sunday at Kansas City.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Barley House, The Ivy and Dive Bar will hold a watch party for the Cleveland Browns’ opener vs. the Chiefs this Sunday, Sept. 12.

Browns fan Pumpkin Head is expected to attend the event, which will run 1 to 8 p.m. Kickoff for the game is 4:25 p.m. in Kansas City.

Radio station 92.3 Fan will broadcast live from the watch party, which will be set up on West 6th Street from W. St. Clair to Lakeside avenues, a Hail Mary pass from FirstEnergy Stadium. Bars will be set up outside, and the game will be shown on the jumbotron.

Admission is free, though a VIP tailgate package is available via eventbrite. The $60 package includes five drink tickets, one meal voucher and a t-shirt. A dunk tank will be set up. A portion of sales proceeds from the day will go to W.A.G.S. (Working Animals Giving Service) for Kids.

Barley House is at 1261 W. 6th St. The Ivy is at 1212 W. 6th, and Dive Bar is at 1214 W. 6th St.

“It’s a collaborative effort,” said Dive Bar’s Justin Costanzo.

“(We’re) combining efforts to make one district, a tailgate, really encouraging the district to come out.”

He said the watch party’s space will provide a larger footprint to help with social-distancing concerns. The watch parties usually will be for Browns home games only, Costanzo said; Sunday’s is the only one scheduled for a road game. The bars are undecided if they will hold a watch party for the Denver-Cleveland game, a Thursday-night game on Oct. 21, because of traffic issues, he added.

Sunday’s game is an early season, high-profile matchup. The Chiefs went 14-2 last year and lost to Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl. Cleveland was 11-5 and lost to Kansas City in the divisional playoffs.
