The NFL Season is back! The Colts and Colts fans are excited for the 2021 season, one that brings with it a lot of expectations about the postseason and a hopeful AFC South title for the first time since 2014.

Colts Radio Analyst and former coach for over 50 years in college and the NFL Rick Venturi joined JMV to preview the season and how the Colts can beat the Seahawks to start the season 1-0. Russell Wilson makes the Seahawks run and Rick told JMV how the Colts should look to limit Wilson on Sunday:

“Wilson is most dangerous when he gets outside the contain and scrambles. Now those receivers, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett take off and Russell can throw the long ball. You have to think edge, you got to think long ball, and you got to plaster receivers because he’s going to move. Do not think a normal 3 count is going to hold. You have got to run with people all over the place and you have got to stop Wilson. This is a solid team but this is Russell Wilson driven. If you control Wilson, you should win the game.”

The Colts Running Back room is viewed among one of the strongest in the NFL. Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines, Marlon Mack, and Jordan Wilkins all bring something unique to the table. However, some have wondered how Frank Reich will divvy up the carries to each back. Rick Venturi likes the depth at the position but would shy away from going with a running back by committee approach:

“I would go into the game thinking I’m only going to play those two guys (Taylor & Hines) to be honest with you and just keep Mack as the insurance policy right now. I think the worst thing we could do is get into an intermural contest where we divide up carries. You lose continuity when you do that and when you have a guy that is a cut above (Taylor) you have to run him. Hines is the perfect change up because he’s tougher than people think and he’s a terrific space player with 63 catches last year. So I think that with those two guys right now I’m going to try and wear the Seahawks out.”
