ORLANDO, Fla. — The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts will require masks for all people 2 years old and up attending indoor shows and events starting Oct. 1, the facility announced Thursday.

What You Need To Know

  • Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts updates safety policies

  • Starting Oct. 1, masks will be required for most visitors for indoor events

  • Proof of a vaccination or negative COVID test also must be presented

  • The Amway Center has special protocols for specific events

In addition, guests 12 years old and up must provide results from a negative COVID-19 test or proof of full vaccination. PCR tests must be conducted within 72 hours before the show or event starts, and rapid antigen tests must be taken within 48 hours before the show or event.

More details about the documentation required are available on the performing arts center’s website.

These new policies will not apply to events at the Frontyard Festival, which will continue to offer live, outdoor entertainment through mid-December 2021.

People holding tickets to events at the Dr. Phillips Center who are unable to comply with the policies can call the facility's box office at 407-358-6603 for a full refund. People who buy resale tickets or from third-party sites need to contact those sources directly to determine their refund policies, according to the Dr. Phillips Center website.

COVID has severely cut into the number of indoor performances at the Dr. Phillips Center and in the industry as a whole, which has largely been shut down since the pandemic became severe in Central Florida in March 2020.

The Dr. Phillips Center also takes other precautions to try to protect its customers and employees from COVID-19, including sanitizing theater areas and high touch surfaces, installing a specialized air-handling unit that uses UV-sanitized filters to provide greater fresh air exchange and encouraging cashless transactions.

The nearby Amway Center does not currently require masks or proof of COVID-19 vaccinations or test results, but select events may require additional health & safety guidelines as a prerequisite to reaching an agreement with event organizers for performers to make appearances at the facility. Arena officials urge people holding tickets to check the current protocols before arriving for events.

For example, for the Harry Styles concert on Oct. 7, all fans will be required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the event or must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (14 days past final vaccination shot). Unvaccinated fans under 12 years of age will be required to take a COVID-19 diagnostic test within 48-hours before the event and must provide proof of a negative result prior to entering the venue. Staff will check proof of negative tests and/or vaccination and deny entry to those non-compliant with these requirements.

For the James Taylor and Jackson Browne concert on Nov. 14, all fans must provide printed proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before entering the venue or must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (at least two weeks after final dose) and provide proof of vaccination — either the original vaccination card or printed documentation providing proof of immunization. Unvaccinated fans under 12 years old are required to take a COVID-19 diagnostic test within 72 hours before the event and provide proof of negative results before entering the venue.

The Amway Center also has instituted more stringent sanitation processes and installed a top-level ventilation system to protect all visitors to the arena.
