The Chippewas volleyball team fell to Miami 3-2 March 27, 2021 in McGuirk Arena.

After finding success at the Chippewa Invitation, Central Michigan volleyball looks to continue its three-game win streak at the Dayton/Wright State Invitational.

The Chippewas, 4-2, start the tournament against Wright State on Friday, Sept. 10 at noon. Sitting at 4-2 on the season, the Raiders have recorded wins against Michigan State and DePaul.

Currently riding a two-game win-streak, Wright State’s success rests on the shoulders of senior Setter Lainey Stephenson, junior outside hitter Megan Alders and senior libero Jenna Story. Stephenson leads the Raiders in assists with 216. Alders leads the team in kills with 88.

In what will be a busy Friday for the Chippewas, CMU will play their second match of the tournament at 6 p.m. against Illinois State. Sitting at 2-4, the Redbird offense runs through freshman setter Katelyn Lefler, who was awarded Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week on Sept. 7. In ISU’s first victory of the season against Ohio, Lefler recorded 48 assists. She followed that up with a 56 assist performance the next day.

CMU will wrap up the invitational against Dayton on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. The Flyers are 2-3, after back-to-back losses against nationally-ranked Wisconsin. Although Dayton is on a losing streak, they have been bolstered offensively by redshirt senior Outside Hitter Jamie Peterson, 57 kills on the year, and redshirt sophomore Setter Livie Sandt, leading the team in assists with 80.

Three players earns conference honors

Following an impressive showing at the Chippewa Invitational last weekend, Savannah Thompson, a senior outside hitter, was awarded Mid-American Conference west division Player of the Week. Senior setter Grace Butler and sophomore setter Kamryn Olson received MAC Co-Setter of the Week honors.

During the two-day invitational, Thompson recorded 47 kills and 39 digs, while maintaining a .297 hitting percentage. Butler notched 62 assists and 26 digs, to go along with 70 assists and 29 digs for Olson.
