Story updated with details from Menifee Police Department:

Handling a quick and efficient investigation of an incident similar to one the day before, Menifee Police Department officers and detectives on Wednesday arrested two Heritage High School students of making threats of violence against the school.

MPD received a report from a Perris Union High School District employee about 9 p.m. Tuesday regarding threatening statements made on social media, referring to potential violence planned for the next day. Officers and detectives obtained search warrants and identified two Heritage High students in connection with the threats, according to an MPD news release.

Detectives determined the students didn’t have the means to follow through on the threats, However, both students were arrested for making criminal threats to a school, based on the nature of the threats and method of dissemination. The students, who were not named because they are minors, were booked into custody at Riverside County Juvenile Hall.

Detectives don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to anyone at Heritage High, according to MPD officials.

The incident took place one day after four students from Ethan A. Chase Middle School were questioned following threats made on social media to that school. No incidents were reported at the school, but the investigation is ongoing.

“In light of a similar situation at Ethan A. Chase Middle School on Monday, we understand that this is especially unnerving for our families,” Heritage principal Mark Harrell wrote to parents of Heritage students in an email Wednesday morning. “Along with the Menifee Police Department, we take any threat of violence very seriously as the safety of our students and staff are our top priority.

“We encourage parents to monitor their student’s social media and talk with them about appropriate social media posting. Those who seek to harm or create fear and anxiety by making threats against our schools will face serious consequences.”
