GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A nation-leading six Gators were ranked inside D1Baseball's Top-100 College Draft Prospects list for the 2022 MLB Draft on Thursday.
Only eight programs in the country placed four or more players within the top 100 and Florida is the only school with six players to make the cut. Gators garnering inclusion on D1Baseball's list are as follows:
No. 14 – LHP
Hunter Barco
No. 26 – OF
Jud Fabian
No. 27 – RHP
Brandon Sproat
No. 33 – INF
Colby Halter
No. 52 – OF
Sterlin Thompson
No. 57 – INF
Josh Rivera
For Barco, Fabian and Halter, today's announcement represents their second appearance on a 2022 MLB Draft rankings list already this fall. Each member of that trio was tabbed as a top-50
college prospect by Baseball America at the end of August, with Barco being ranked No. 7, Fabian coming in at No. 15 and Halter occupying the No. 18 spot.
Dating back to head coach
Kevin O'Sullivan's hire in 2008, Florida's 10 first-round draft picks are tied for second in the country. 95 total Gators have been selected in the MLB Draft during that time, which ranks second in the Southeastern Conference.
