Far Cry 6 Free Upgrade

Ubisoft Confirms Far Cry 6 Will Have Free Next Gen Upgrade

Users who purchase the upcoming Far Cry 6 on the PS4 will have the ability to upgrade to the PS5 version for free, Ubisoft confirms. The news was announced via a post by the official Far Cry 6 Twitter account. The offer also applies to copies of the game on the Xbox One. Far Cry 6 will release on October 7, 2021.

The announcement comes just a week after Sony walked back Horizon Fobidden West requiring the deluxe editions for dual entitlement. Though Horizon will also feature free next-gen upgrades, Sony specifically noted that future first-party title next gen upgrades would cost $10 going forward. Fortunately for fans, Far Cry 6 is not a first party exclusive and will upgrade to PS5 at no cost. On the topic of performance, Ubisoft has previously stated that the game will run “fine” on the PS4. Next-gen consoles like the PS5, however, will allow Far Cry 6 to run in 4K at 60 FPS.

Additionally, Ubisoft recently revealed an official story trailer detailing the premise of Far Cry 6. Though Giancarlo Esposito, who plays antagonist dictator Anton Castillo, states that the character is not a villain from his own perspective, the trailer highlights the brutal ways in which the Castillo attempts to turn the fictional nation of Yara into a “paradise.” As a member of the resistance, players will control Dani as they go up against the Castillo in order to take down the government and free the nations alongside the revolutionary Libertad.

Ubisoft also revealed back in June that Far Cry 6’s Season Pass will let players explore the minds of past Far Cry villains, such as Vaas Montenegro, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed. Split into three separate DLC episodes, each looks to feature levels similar to the locations in past titles, albeit with a terrifying supernatural twist. To top it all off, the Season Pass will also include the Classic Edition of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

Far Cry 6 releases on October 7th, 2021.
