Jason Sudeikis and Evangeline Lilly are the stars of upcoming thriller South of Heaven – and it sure sounds like they both can definitely pull a southern accent. The new movie just dropped its first trailer, which you can check out for yourself above.

Directed and co-written by Aharon Keshales, the Americana action movie features the Ted Lasso actor as lead Jimmy and the MCU Ant-Man star as his childhood love Annie.

Jimmy is a convict with one goal in mind: reuniting with Annie, who's dying from cancer, to be able to spend her last year together.

Determined to spend more time with his girlfriend, Jimmy talks his way into an early parole. But life gets in the way of this heartbreaking romance.

When Jimmy's parole officer gives him a "side job", the man is suddenly on a local crime boss' map – and it's guaranteed not to end up well.

The film also stars Luke Cage actor Mike Colter and Shea Whigham, who fans may recognise from American Hustle.

Sudeikis recently returned for a second season of Ted Lasso, the beloved AppleTV+ show where he plays the eponymous football coach.

Unlike South of Heaven, Ted Lasso is as wholesome and uplifting as it gets. The series even included a reference to The Great British Bake Off in a recent episode.

The sixth episode of the Apple TV+ drama series’ second season featured a scene in which Ted is at the pub with Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and Rebecca’s mum Deborah (Harriet Walker).

While the group is enjoying a drink, Deborah points out that a group of men in the pub are being very loud while shouting at a football game on TV – but it turns out that they’re actually transfixed by the latest episode of the baking contest. Well, who could blame them?

South of Heaven will be released in theatres and on demand in the US on October 8. Its UK release date is to be confirmed.

Ted Lasso seasons one and two are streaming on Apple TV+.
