The generational upgrade Rockstar announced for Grand Theft Auto V in 2020 is no longer landing later this year as previously planned. During Sony"s PlayStation Showcase today the new enhanced and expanded version received a gameplay trailer for the first time, seen above, which also revealed the new launch window to be March 2022.
"While we are extremely excited to be bringing GTA V to the latest generation of consoles, the game requires a few additional months for polishing and fine-tuning," the studio says regarding the sudden delay. "We look forward to sharing more details about these expanded and enhanced versions soon, including the new standalone version of GTA Online also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March."
While details are still scarce, the upgrade to the latest consoles means graphics improvements as well as much faster loading times thanks to the new consoles" SSDs. Some GTA Online cars are being supercharged to make use of those SSDs as well, since they can keep up with the world data loading in faster. The single-player campaign"s character switching feature will also be seamless, without getting stuck in the overhead view phase like in the current consoles, thanks to the faster drives.
As previously announced, thanks to a partnership between Sony and Rockstar, PlayStation Plus members are gaining a million GTA cash every month until the next-gen version launches next year. Also, the upcoming GTA Online standalone version will be free for PlayStation 5 owners in the first three months after launch.
