There may not be a more continually underrated player in the league than Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.  Ryan was ranked 12th in the first edition of NFL’s annual quarterback rankings.

It isn’t simply where Ryan is ranked as much as it is the players who rank in front of him. Both players with less success statistically and players who are yet to find playoff success. It is an odd list seemingly void of reason.

Derek Carr, Kylar Murray, Ryan Tannehill, Dak Prescott, and Justin Herbert all rank above Ryan in week one’s rankings. Players who have never had playoff success or sniffed an MVP as of yet in their careers.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback is consistently underrated for just how much he has done in Atlanta

First, as a reminder, Ryan is on track to end his career top-four in nearly every major statistical passing category. Despite the infamous outcome Ryan played in a Super Bowl and performed well he isn’t a Joe Flacco or Jared Goff who simply made it there.

Ryan carried his team to the Super Bowl in an MVP campaign that saw him beat Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Though he did fail to slay the dragon that is Tom Brady it was a great run, one players ranked ahead of him have failed to sniff.  A player at a time let’s break down how poorly these rankings have been put together and the players that shouldn’t be ahead of Matt Ryan.
