Was this a disappointing summer window for Arsenal Football Club?
Something is clearly wrong at the Emirates since Arsenal is enduring their worst start to a top-flight campaign in the club’s history; the Gunners have conceded nine goals and have not managed to score a single one themselves this season.
Added to the insult of three losses in three games played, they sit at the bottom of the Premier League table (20th) and the fans’ patience is wearing thin because it is just disappointing to see where they are at right now and the new low that they have hit under Mikel Arteta.
Not only has the Gunners been disappointing on the pitch but they have also completed some questionable business this summer. They have spent £156.8M on five different new incomings and none of these signings should have been bought for the respective amounts that they were.
Just to do a little comparison; these are the players that Manchester United bought for a combined total of £133.7M and the players Aston Villa have bought for a combined total of £93.0M – compared to the £156.8M Arsenal spent on their fresh five.

The Red Devils brought in three world-class players which include arguably the best player in football’s history and spent €21m less than the Gunners. Aston Villa spent €56m less than Arsenal and brought in four players that all fit their style of play and strengthens their squad perfectly.
A lot of bad decisions have been made by Arteta and the club (Edu). For example, spending €30m on a goalkeeper who will most likely be a substitute – they could’ve used the €30m for another player. Also, they overpaid for Ben White, who is a great center-back but hasn’t shown he’s worth the £50m paid for him – his performances since becoming a Gunner have been average at best.
These bad decisions have the Gunners at the bottom of the table and it is difficult to see a way out of it. It would require a miracle for the Gunners to start playing good football.
Arteta hasn’t been able to find a proper starting XI and has had some complications with his strikers since they were out for most of the games with illnesses.
