The Sozosei Foundation Announces New Grants Through its Resilient Communities Programs

(Princeton, NJ, August 15, 2021) The Sozosei Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. (OPAI), has approved grants through its Resilient Communities Program.

While the Sozosei Foundation’s primary focus is to eliminate the use of jail and prisons for the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, the Foundation also recognizes the importance of building resilient, healthy, and vibrant communities near OAPI’s offices in the United States.

The Sozosei Foundation’s Resilient Communities Program (RCP) aims to make a tangible impact in diverse, under-resourced communities within a 50-mile radius of the offices through community-based approaches to food security, the arts, physical and mental health, and social and legal services.

Grants through the Resilient Communities Program support community foundations and nonprofit organizations that are making an impact in six cities: City of Baltimore, MD; Stockton, CA; and Camden, Newark, Paterson, and Trenton, NJ. These cities were chosen because of their geographic proximity -- within a 50-mile radius of the Otsuka offices in the United States and community potential to build resiliency and well-being.

Grants were made as follows:

Baltimore City, MD, 11 Grants totaling $247,300

Grantees: The Baltimore Community Foundation, Creative Alliance, Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, Black Yield Institute, A Revolutionary Summer, Baltimore Empowered, Health Care for the Homeless, Intercultural Counseling Connection, ROAR (Rebuild, Overcome and Rise), Center for Urban Families, and Out for Justice.

Stockton, CA, 10 Grants totaling $224,467
