Horrifying moment father, 35, is gunned down while holding hands with his five-year-old son in a Mexican store before shooter flees

  • A 35-year-old man was shot dead while he was holding his five-year-old son's hand at the Hidalgo Market in Tijuana, Mexico on Wednesday
  • The gunman is seen on a surveillance standing near the store exit before he walked down an isle and shot the father in the head 
  • The boy and another individuals standing near the victim were not injured
  • As of Thursday, the Tijuana had not made any arrests tied to the shooting 
  • Tijuana has registered 1,380 homicides in the first eight months of 2021. A total of 2,000 murders were recorded in 2020 

This is the horrifying moment a 35-year-old man, who was holding hands with his five-year-old son as they shopped at a Mexican store, was shot dead. 

Surveillance video released by Hidalgo Market in border town of Tijuana showed the victim and the child looking for a product on one of the store's two isles on Wednesday.

The gunman is spotted standing to the side of an isle near the exit and keeping a close eye on his target while holding a cellphone to his ear.

The assailant subsequently took a couple of steps and opened fire at least twice, Mexican news outlet Milenio reported.

The man, whose name has not been released, collapsed to the ground as the boy dove for the ground. An individual who happened to be standing next to the boy's father narrowly avoided being shot.

Red Cross paramedics arrived on the scene moments later and declared the man dead.

The murdered father was the third person killed in Tijuana over the last two days.

Hours before he was executed, authorities found the mutilated body of a woman on a street. On Tuesday, assassins ambushed and shot dead a police officer in front of his home. 

Government crime stats for Tijuana show that 157 murders were registered in August, increasing the 2021 figures to 1,380 homicides in the first eight months of the year.

The border town registered 2,000 homicides in 2020.
