Air It Out: East Hall-Johnson ready for battle

Our latest episode in the Air It Out series takes a peak at the East Hall-Johnson battle at Billy Ellis Memorial Stadium. The game will kick off Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Warriors Stadium in Cleveland and can be heard live on 94.5 FM The Lake.

Both teams are still looking for thir first wins of the season. We talked to East Hall coach Matt Turner and senior Levi Howard. We also talked to Johnson coach William Harrell and senior two-way linemanJuan Allen Bryson Cronic as they all discussed the upcoming rivalry showdown.

EAST HALL at JOHNSON

-- EAST HALL (0-2, 0-0 Region 8-4A): Lost 38-21 to Franklin County last week
-- JOHNSON (0-1, 0-0 Region 8-5A): Off the last two weeks; lost 57-7 to Cherokee Bluff on Aug. 20
-- NOTABLE: Johnson leads series 22-18-1. East Hall won 41-3 in 2020. The Vikings have won six straight and 8 of the last 9 in the series. The last Johnson win was in 2012, 22-21 in Rabbittown. ... Johnson has not played in three weeks due to the Battle of Oakwood scheduled for last week being moved to Oct. 29. ... The Knights are still rebuilding in their second season with Coach Harrell and have lost 13 straight. East Hall is trying to avoid its first 0-3 start since 2018. ... It figures to be a tough matchup for the Johnson defense against Vikings QB Clete Cooper and a talented WR group. East Hall is also still getting acclimated to new coach Matt Turner but the offense is starting to show signs of breaking loose. ... The Vikings defense, however, is still looking for improvement. They have yielded 86 points (43 ppg) after giving up 35 ppg in 2020.
