A garbage truck crashed into a building exposing a marijuana grow operation in Sterling Heights.

According to WDIV 4, officials say a garbage truck tried to avoid a car that ran a red light on Mound Road around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday (September 8).

The garbage truck driver was heading southbound when he attempted to avoid the vehicle that ran the red light by swerving, but the car was still struck.

After the truck hit the car, police say it ran up and over the median on Mound Road, crossed through the northbound lanes and crashed into an unoccupied building. Luckily, the garbage truck did not hit any other cars when it drove onto the northbound lanes.

After the crash, officers began investigating the building and discovered that the building housed a marijuana-growing operation.

Firefighters were called to the scene to assess the building's damage and verify its safety due to the new instability from the crash.

Authorities say no one was injured in the crash and the marijuana grow operation is under investigation by Sterling Heights police.

It is estimated that inside the building, there are about 260 marijuana plants. Commercial grows like the one in the video below are not legal in Sterling Heights.
