Toyota offers an in-depth look at the Corolla Cross, the first vehicle under construction at the firm’s new joint venture facility, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing in Huntsville and slated to reach dealers in October.

Also today, Honda introduced its adventurous new TrailSport options for light trucks, which are made at Honda’s plant in Lincoln.

Based on the immensely popular Corolla sedan, the Corolla Cross comes equipped with a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine that delivers 169 horsepower. It’s available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive and is capable of towing 1,500 pounds. It comes equipped with Toyota’s range of safety systems.

Base price is pegged at $22,195 plus $1,300 for all-wheel-drive options.

“For over 50 years, Corolla has been synonymous with dependability, fuel efficiency, safety and value,” said Lisa Materazzo, group vice president of Toyota Marketing. “With the all-new Corolla Cross, we are building upon that foundation and offering even more versatility and creature comforts to make everything from a daily commute to a weekend escape more memorable.”

Honda Trailsport adds light truck touches to evoke outdoor adventure.

Honda’s TrailSport features, also slated to arrive at dealer’s this fall, bringing a more rugged design and off-road capability to some light truck models.

“With Honda’s best-in-class i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system, they will want to get dirty tackling trails, without sacrificing comfort or the best-in-class on-road dynamics of the brand’s light trucks,” the company said in making its announcement.

“TrailSport represents the next chapter in our rugged direction and will bring exclusive styling to our existing light trucks that will appeal to buyers seeking adventure,” said Dave Gardner, executive vice president of National Operations at American Honda.
