Bulletin report
Four Peaks Brewing Co.’s nonprofit, Four Peaks For Teachers, distributed 200 free school-supply kits to Las Cruces teachers during a mid-August event at the Pic Quik store on Don Roser Drive in Las Cruces. The company also awarded a $1,000 grant to Centennial High School ninth-grade English teacher Maria Perez-Luna to pay for supplies for her classroom.
Perez-Luna was one of 11 teachers from across the nation chosen from among thousands of nominations to receive the grant. She was chosen, Four Peaks Brewing Company said in an email, “because she gives 110 percent every day, she is able to make a connection with every student she meets, she helps students that have special education needs, she has a meaningful curriculum that engages students who aren’t interested in English, or school, for that matter, she makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable and has a passion and love for teaching.”
The 200 school-supply kits contained paper reams, pencils, pens, staples and other essential school supplies, Four Peaks said.
The event was part of Four Peaks’ 11th Annual For Peaks For Teachers initiative that kicked off in May, raising funds to distribute 10,000 free school-supply kits to teachers in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada and Utah.
