Boyfriend Guns Down Girlfriend's Parents, Killing Father: Police

A man who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend's father and severely injured her mother is wanted by police after fleeing the scene on Wednesday night.

A 49-year-old man was shot multiple times around 10:30 p.m. on the 2700 block of North Garnett Street in North Philadelphia, police said.

His 43-year-old wife was also shot in the hands. Both were identified by police as being the father and mother of the alleged shooter's girlfriend, according to WPVI.

The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead and his wife is said to be in a stable condition, the outlet reported.

The unidentified suspect fled the scene and remains on the loose.

Two shell casings and a semi-automatic gun were located at the scene as well as a Nike sneaker which has been marked as evidence.

Police have not disclosed the identities of the people involved, nor provided a motive for the shootings.

Investigators are checking surveillance cameras in the area.

Newsweek has contacted the Philadelphia Police Department for comment.

The crime bears striking similarities to an incident from about the same time in 2020, when the 19-year-old boyfriend of a girl shot her father in the head during a lover's quarrel.

The 46-year-old man reportedly tried to intervene during an argument between the pair when the boyfriend brandished a gun and shot the man in the head, ABC6 reported at the time.

Police were called to the 2600 block of North Bonsall Street in North Philadelphia at around 8:30 p.m. on June 9 to reports of a shooting.

The 46-year-old father was found shot dead at the scene, with wounds to his head.

Over in Texas, a father allegedly shot dead his daughter's ex-boyfriend in August after finding the 29-year-old vandalizing her car.

He reportedly told police he woke up around 4:29 a.m. local time on Sunday, August 8 to find his daughter's former partner damaging her car outside their family home in the 5000 block of Joslyn Lane in San Antonio, Texas.

He and his daughter then went outside to confront him, San Antonio police told KSAT.

The ex-boyfriend opened the front iron gate to the home and charged at his ex-girlfriend's father, according to officials who spoke with the outlet.

The father, who was armed with a gun, told police he felt threatened and had the weapon to protect himself. He added that after telling the man to leave his property, he fired one shot.

Arriving officers found the 29-year-old on the ground with a gunshot wound, KSAT reported. Emergency workers attempted to save the man but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
