A longtime anchor of the popular “Good Morning America” show is saying goodbye to his role on the show.

Dan Harris announced that he would be departing from the show this upcoming fall. He’s long been a staple on the “GMA” team. He joined the ABC News team in March 2000 and was working at New England Cable News before that.

Harris was a key fixture during important new milestones over the years. He covered global stories like Haiti’s child slavery, as well as different situations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Isreal for “Good Morning America.”

As a long-term journalist, Harris was even given awards like the Edward R. Murrow Award to signal his success in the field. As it turns out, Harris is departing from the journalism field completely.

His final date as an anchor is not yet released, but he is leaving to put all of his focus on his meditation company. The company is called Ten Percent Happier. It has been a focus for the anchor for several years now. The company has meditation experts that teach people the art of meditation. Harris also has a podcast and several books on the subject. It all started with “10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress without Losing My Edge and Found Self-Help That Actually Works.”

Harris had a panic attack while on ABC News and had to learn to adjust his lifestyle and how he handles stress and anxiety.

Decision to Leave ‘Good Morning America’

He explained his decision to leave during a broadcast of “Good Morning America.”

“This was a difficult decision for me. As some of you may know, I’ve been spending a lot of time on my extracurricular gig, my side hustle, a meditation company, called Ten Percent Happier. It’s been a lot to juggle and even though I’m a public proponent of work/life balance, if I’m honest, I’ve struggled to follow my own advice,” Dan Harris said.

Harris isn’t leaving “Good Morning America” due to any hard feelings or bad blood, rather he’s just trying to explore his passions. The weekend co-anchor said, “One of the highlights of my life. My colleagues, both on and off the air, have become like a family. I really do love these people, and I am going to miss them horribly.”

However, it’s a decision that is focused on making him happier, which he has been trying to do for millions of other people since 2014. The bestselling books turned into an app geared toward changing people’s minds about meditation.

Harris also wrote the book “Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-To Book” in 2017.

“Good Morning America” will still have plenty of familiar faces, however. That includes Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, Amy Robach, and Lara Spencer.
