GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers open the regular season Sunday against the Saints in a game moved to Jacksonville because of the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in New Orleans.

Aaron Rodgers is the first Packers player ever to reach a 17th season with the team. Whether it will be his last is a question that will hang over the Packers all season.

“There [are] a lot of unknowns," Rodgers said. "We don't feel pressure. I'm speaking personally, I can't speak for everybody, but I feel that I get with the energy in a locked room, it's not pressure, it's focus. Because regardless of what happens with any of our situations, this group will not be together the way it is now in years down the line. So we're gonna enjoy this year for all it has to offer."

Head coach Matt LaFleur said Rodgers is doing “an outstanding job” and has been “a great leader.”

"I think he's playing at a really high level, but that's in practice,” he said. “Ultimately, all 11 on the field have to go out there and do it collectively. You never want to rest on past merits, which I know he doesn't. He's definitely put the work in. I think he's in a really good headspace and I think he's got the right mentality, the right mindset.”

Standout wide receiver Davante Adams is entering the last year of his contract. He was asked Wednesday whether he could sign an extension before the opener.

“Nope," said Adams flatly. "I'm just trying to make this thing as little about me. I'm not really a big ‘me’ guy. I want it to be about me when it’s time to shine. You know, throw me the ball, but as far as the attention, look, we don't really know what's going on, so it's the team perspective. It really relates the same as it pertains to me, and Aaron as well.”

“We don't really know what's going to happen. Me and Aaron talked about it,” Adams continued. “At the end of the day, we are trying to have the right mindset. We just say this has to be a year, just because we're not gonna have exactly the same team next year.”

LaFleur said the Packers will give linebacker Za'Darius Smith the whole week before determining his playing status for Sunday. He's been dealing with a sore back.
