Cordero’s season really has been, more than anything else in my mind, the ultimate illustration about the difference between major-league pitching and Triple-A pitching right now. We’ve seen it from other sources around the league as well, but the stark difference for Cordero has been jarring. Unable to hold down a bench role in Boston, he is now hitting .337/.408/.548 with Worcester and has never really stopped hitting at Triple-A. It’s obviously hard to see him getting back to the majors in a meaningful way again this year barring something like this recent COVID outbreak, but he’s making himself interesting to somebody for next spring.

The legend of Nick Yorke only continues to grow. Greenville entered the ninth inning trailing 2-1, and after a bases loaded walk tied it up, Yorke came up with two outs and the bases loaded. He connected for a grand slam, his third homer since being promoted to High-A, to ultimately win the game. We’ve been talking nonstop about him for a month now, but he’s just been so, so impressive. On the mound, Wu-Yelland’s command was a bit of an issue again, but he’s also having a really encouraging season and ensuring that we at least keep him in mind for 2022.

This was a tough loss for Salem, who did come back late in the game only to lose it in the bottom of the ninth. Decker has been riding a hot streak to end his season, and with a couple more hits his OPS is up to .872 on the season. He missed a little bit of time, but he probably hasn’t gotten enough credit (and that includes from me) for the year he’s had. meanwhile, Northcut is in the same category. His season hasn’t been quite as strong, but the power has been real. With a home run on Wednesday his Isolated Power is up to .232 on the year.
