Two women sentenced in welfare fraud cases

BATAVIA — A Byron woman and an Attica woman were sentenced in August to one-year conditional discharges in separate welfare fraud cases, the Genesee County Department of Social Services reported.

Trina Grimmer, 50, of Byron pleaded guilty Aug. 17 in Batavia Town Court to petit larceny. Grimmer was originally charged with six counts of offering a false instrument for filing and one count of third-degree grand larceny. Department Investigator Dakota Nicholson found that Grimmer failed to report that her son and his father were also living in the home. She received $8,104 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to which she was not entitled.
