Cincinnati Reds drop fifth consecutive series with walk-off loss to Chicago Cubs

CHICAGO – A miserable stretch for the Cincinnati Reds continued with another gut punch Wednesday when Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward hit a walk-off, three-run homer to hand the Reds a 4-1 loss in 10 innings at Wrigley Field.

Reds pitchers went eight innings without allowing a ball out of the infield until Brad Brach surrendered a single to Patrick Wisdom and Heyward’s homer that flew to the videoboard in right field.

It was the fifth consecutive series loss for the Reds, who outhit the Cubs, 6-4. The Reds failed to advance their automatic runner at second base in the top of the 10th inning and everything fell apart in the bottom half of the inning.
