The Atlanta Falcons are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to open the 2021 NFL season. And as they do, Falcons fans will be keeping a close eye on rookie tight end Kyle Pitts on the heels of an impressive career at Florida.

While with the Gators, Pitts developed into one of the top tight ends in the country—a reliable weapon for quarterback Kyle Trask—and eventually was taken 4th overall by Atlanta in the 2021 NFL Draft. And the Falcons played it safe during preseason by opting to play him sparingly, although the rookie did find himself on the highlight reel during his appearance against the Cleveland Browns.

“I’m just eager to play at this next level and test my abilities against others,” Pitts said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter. “I’m most eager about the competition, going against different people that I have seen. Different techniques and different defenses.”

And as Pitts has looked to adjust to the professional game, he’s received an assist from Matt Ryan.

“He pulls me aside and tells me small things that kind of help me in my game on and off the field,” Pitts said. “He’s a good mentor.”

“My point to him is that it doesn’t change in year 14,” Ryan said. “This first one is always exciting. Let’s make sure we have a good week of practice, enjoy the moment and I think he’ll be just fine.”
