New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays: Luis Gil vs. Alek Manoah

The Yankees will hope to get some more magic from Luis Gil as they take on the Blue Jays.

Well, yesterday could not have gone much worse.

The Yankees continued their recent malaise with a 5-1 loss the Blue Jays. Although they still hold the first Wild Card spot thanks to every other close team losing, their lead over Toronto fell to just 2.5 games. Oh, and ace Gerrit Cole left the game early with hamstring tightness, and it’s unclear whether or not he’ll make his next start. All of that is not great.

However, today is a new day, and it’s a new chance to get back on a winning run. To try and do so, they’ll send out someone who couldn’t have been more impressive in his short career so far. Luis Gil will get the ball for his fourth career start, still yet to allow a run in the majors in 15.2 innings of work. Tonight is certainly going to be quite the test, as the Blue Jays’ offense is very good and has played well of late.

For Toronto, Alek Manoah will take the mound for them. Manoah made his MLB debut in Yankee Stadium back in May, and held New York to just two hits in six scoreless innings. This will be the Yankees’ first look at him since then.

Go Yankees, go baseball.
