Eagles CB Darius Slay on matchup with Calvin Ridley, and what Makes Falcons WR so dangerous

Calvin Ridley was the top wide receiver in Atlanta last season, but with Julio Jones now in Nashville, the former Alabama star wideout is the unquestioned No. 1 guy for the Falcons.

Darius Slay loves a high-profile matchup and even in Jonathan Gannon’s new scheme, he’s still looking forward to matching up with Atlanta’s elite route running technician.

During his Wednesday afternoon media session, Slay praised Ridley as “a No. 1 guy in my opinion,” highlighting Ridley’s route running and his big-play ability.”

Ridley is coming off a 2020 season in which he logged 90 catches for 1,374-yards and nine touchdowns.

Slay will see time on Ridley, but if he doesn’t travel, new Falcons head coach Arthur Smith and offensive coordinator Dave Ragone could look to get their star receiver matched up with Avonte Maddox or someone else in the slot.
