Today, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst announced that Firesprite has been acquired by Sony. Firesprite, a UK-based developer, is now the 14th member of PlayStation Studios, a prolific group that of course includes Sony Santa Monica of God of War fame, and Guerilla Games, the devs behind Horizon Zero dawn. Some of Firesprite's past games were The Playroom, Run Sackboy! Run, and The Persistence. They're sure to contribute their VR expertise to Sony's Playstation Studios.

The official statement reads:

“Firesprite is a creative and ambitious studio that is exceptional at building incredible experiences that truly showcase the potential of our hardware. The team’s technical and creative capabilities will be paramount to growing our stellar catalogue of exclusive games, and I think you’ll be excited for what’s to come.”

In response to joining the PlayStation Studios family, Firesprite Managing Director, Graeme Ankers enthusiastically responded with the following:

Now, as a first-party studio, we know we have the full support of PlayStation in furthering our heritage of combining creativity and technical innovation to offer some truly unique experiences for PlayStation fans.”

In other Sony news, PlayStation will be having a Showcase tomorrow, where they're likely to discuss some big games coming to the PlayStation 5.
