Jota is certainly one of the most interesting signings that Celtic have made this summer. The Portuguese winger was one of the most highly-rated talents in world football while coming through the youth ranks at Benfica and was a standout for both club and country back then. Not too long ago, he was even linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Now 22 years of age though, he has never quite managed to find his feet in senior football. After struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular at Benfica, he spent the previous season on loan at Real Valladolid and did not enjoy a great time there either.

The Hoops have signed him this summer on a season-long loan with an option to buy included in the deal which is believed to be just over £6 million. It looks like though that the club have a lot of belief in the player and expect to try to make a permanent move for him next summer.

While speaking with The Celtic Exchange Podcast and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, journalist Anthony Joseph said:

"“I was told by one source that they fully expect to be trying to buy him next summer. They expect him to flourish, and they expect him to really set the place alight.“He’s highly regarded at Celtic, and they’ve done very well to get him in with an option to buy. I believe it’s a bit less than £6.5m, the option to buy, I think it’s just over £6m.”"

Celtic can be the perfect club for Jota

It is safe to say that Jota has not reached the potential that he had shown during his youth career. Parkhead might be the perfect place for him to find his feet at the senior level though.

Jota is a fantastic dribbler of the ball who possesses the ability to just glide past opposition defenders. He also showed during his youth career that he has an eye for goal as well. Thus, he could be a brilliant fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football and a club like Celtic could be great for him as well as he will spend a lot of time in the opposition’s final third, which is where he truly shines.

There is a lot of excitement around the signing at this point of time. Now, it remains to be seen how Jota ends up doing this season for the Hoops.
