First-round picks Joe Veleno, Lucas Raymond and Sebastian Cossa are among the Detroit Red Wings prospects participating in this year’s NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City.

The event, reduced from eight to five teams this year, takes place at Centre I.C.E. Arena from Sept. 16-20, preceding the main Red Wings training camp from Sept. 23-28.

The tournament will provide the first look at Raymond, the left wing Detroit selected fourth overall in 2020, its highest pick since 1990. The product of the Frolunda Hockey Club in Sweden will begin his North American career this season, competing for an NHL job in camp. If he’s not ready, he’ll start with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.

It will be a big camp for Veleno, the 30th pick in 2018, who looked good during a five-game stint with the Red Wings at the end of last season and will try to earn a job in camp.

Cossa, a 6-6 goaltender taken with the 15th pick this year, is the franchise’s goalie of the future.

The roster also includes skilled winger Jonatan Berggren, the 33rd pick in 2018 who will begin his North American career, as well as defenseman Jared McIsaac, the 36th selection in 2018 who is preparing for his first full season with the Griffins.

Defenseman Moritz Seider, Detroit’s top pick in 2019, isn’t participating in the prospects tournament. He is a virtual lock to make the NHL roster.

The Red Wings will play three games: Sept. 16 vs. Dallas (7 p.m.), Sept. 18 vs. St. Louis (7 p.m.) and Sept. 19 vs. Columbus (6 p.m.). Toronto also is participating though the teams and schedule could change due to COVID-19.

All games will be live streamed on DetroitRedWings.com.

Participating teams will play either three or four games. Due to the unbalanced schedule, the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup will not be awarded this season. The tournament’s championship trophy was renamed in 2015 in honor of Wuest, known for his work on CapGeek.com as well as his exclusive coverage and statistical archiving of the NHL Prospect Tournament on RedWingsCentral.com, spanning back to the inaugural tournament in 1998 before succumbing to a two-year battle with cancer in 2015.

Tickets for all games are available now online at www.centreice.com/drwtickets and will also be sold first-come, first-served at the arena entrance on the day of each event.

Here is the Red Wings’ prospects tournament roster:
