“Sadly, the experience of shopping fine jewelry can be extremely intimidating. This played a big part in the inspiration around creating Cast,” says Rachel Skelly, chief creative officer and co-founder of the new fine jewelry collective Cast. The online space launches today with the intention of opening up the world of fine jewelry to a new generation that is looking to build their own jewelry collections. Cast, as Skelly explains, is rooted in collaboration, working with female-focused designers and artists for each capsule collection. “We hope to inspire new jewelry lovers and collectors and aim to do so by continually bringing in new artists and designers whose stories are celebrated and shared,” says Skelly. “We offer a wide range in price points as well, with the focus of inclusivity.”
Cast’s launch is marked by four distinctive launch collections by three different designers: Alice Cicolini, Francesca Villa, and Kristy Ford. While each collection is different, they each seamlessly live within Cast’s ethos. “The common thread is our core aesthetic, which is focused around a look that is artful, distinctive, and timeless,” says Skelly. “We’re crafting storied collections that create an eclectic yet signature style…. there’s definitely a nod to a vintage feel, but with a modern edge.”
Within Cast’s already growing collective are the three women who have helped carefully create the launch capsules. There’s London-based jewelry designer Alice Cicolini, a published author, curator, and Research Associate of Central St. Martins (where she graduated with a Masters in Jewelry Design). Cicolini has dreamed up two of the four launch capsules for Cast: Rebel Icon, which features defiant and bold linked bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and mixed metal cuffs, and Mad Mod, a capsule filled with rings and bracelets in rich colors and patterns, adorned with juicy gems making for a somehow equally modern and retro result. There’s Italian jewelry designer Francesca Villa, whose designs for Cast are nothing short of engineering feats. The Getaway Ring, a refined statement ring, is flawlessly engineered to transform on rotation, revealing new facades that makeup entirely different rings. Lastly, North Carolina-based Kristy Ford, who happens to be a third-generation jeweler’s Brazen Beauty collection includes smooth, effortless pieces that are just as ideal for everyday wear as they are for special occasions. “Each collection was designed to play a specific role in your jewelry box. Whether that be a statement, color pop, or classic layering, we wanted to begin with an artful series of stories that speak to many,” says Skelly. “After endless research and exploration, I ultimately chose the collective designers because of their unique, artful style and aesthetic,” says Skelly.
Each piece designed in collaboration with Cast is uniquely and exclusive to the brand and only sold on Cast’s website. Throughout the year, Cast will be introducing new drops and soon, vintage. The brand has plans to add to the collective of designers over time as well as a brick and mortar store to complement the online DTC experience.
