Oceanside police arrested a 25-year-old man who they said got into a fight and stabbed his sister and then refused to come out of their home for several hours, police said.

Police were called to a home on Leon Street near East Parker Street shortly after 8 p.m. and found the man’s 30-year-old sister suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital where she was treated for injuries that were not considered life threatening and released, said police spokesman Tom Bussey.

Bussey said the sister stabbed the man with scissors during the fight. He then refused to comply with with police commands to come out, leading to a standoff that lasted several hours.

“He wouldn’t come out. He barricaded himself in the house,” Bussey said.

Crisis negotiators and the police SWAT team responded to the home. The man surrendered to police around 1 a.m. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for stab wounds, including internal bleeding in his abdomen.

Bussey said the man would be arrested after he’s released from the hospital and could face a charge of attempted murder.
